Excel And An Apple Mac

if i create a template for a spreadsheet in excel on my laptop, can i email it to someone on a mac and then can they then use that template as a live spreedsheet to enter data in on a daily basis?

As long as the have Excel, yes.

hi, thanks for your reply, the original document is so complex i have had to scan it into my laptop and then save it as a pdf file, now i want to edit the document and then email the edited version to the person with the mac, is that possible?

I know you can import Word into Pages on a Mac. I think Numbers is the Excel equivalent on Mac so you may be able to import it on that too.

In that case they won't be able to use it as a spreadsheet.

If you send the spreadsheet as a pdf file it stops being a spreadsheet, it is just a picture of the page

I'm completely baffled as to how to do this, i have to make the template and i can;t get my head around it, there are 29 columns and 25 of them are so narrow i have to write the heading upwards, in landscape, which is horizontally in portrait but i can't work it out : (

you can change the text direction in a cell by right clicking and selecting 'format cell'

They'd need Excel on their machine. I believe many Macs do have something compatible these days. I'd suggest creating a very simple Excel document then mailing it to your colleague to see if they can open it. I'd then get them to make a simple amendment, just type something into one cell. They then save it on their machine and email it back to you. If you can open it and see their amendment, then all's OK.

Sending it as a .pdf is, as others have suggested, only sending a picture - you're not sending the calculations. I'm trying to work out a way of you getting it to me. I work with Excel all the time and would be happy to help you sort it out. Just don't want to put my email address on here in public. If you can think of a way, I'd be glad to help.

Hi CJP, I've been at work all day and so not been online, I have scanned the original into my documents and I can send it to you for you to have a look and see whether it would be easier to do it on word or excel, my email is [email protected], cheers x

You would have to convert it back from .pdf to Excel before you send it (or know that the recipient has a .pdf converter) otherwise they won't be able to write in it when they receive it. .Pdf can't be amended as it stands, that's the whole point of it.

yes i realise that now, I've tried to purchase the latest Microsoft office at £7.99 a month too but as i have windows vista not 7 or 8 it won;t download either.
