In light of the tragic Boston marathon event, and our own future events such as Baroness Thatchers funeral and the London Marathon, it is reassuring to note that our own Security Services continue to seek out those in this country who wish to commit such acts.

reassuring that they're doing their jobs? Well, yes, I suppose so!

I hope they're doing something about the Snowdonia terrorism camps.
Yep they're building an impressive track record aren't they

As I've said before when you consider the MOD's budget compared to MI5's you can see where we're getting value for money.

We're no safer for having armed forces in Afghanistan - we wouldn't be pulling them out if we were

So why are we spending so much money on foeign wars?

Let's rebuild the Border Agency with parts of the military and MI5 into a homeland security force and stop spending silly money on sending troops and aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines around the world getting involved in foreign wars!

First of all, you are pre-emting a verdict in this on going trial. They have not been convicted yet. They have admitted one offence. The 'plan' to use a toy car as a bomb does not sound viable. We should wait for a verdict before we make conclusions. We should also wait to see who was behind the Boston bombs. In th past, the US has had trouble with white supremacist anti Government terrorists. There may be no international element to it. Again, we shouldn't jump to conclusions.

The Security Services do seem to have been successful since 7/7 on adverting any further attacks from al qaeda inspired terrorists. We should be very grateful, but I think it is dangerous to gloat about it. All that could change in an instant if the terrorists get lucky. The ones that they are catching seem incredibly dim, almost comedically so. The danger is that their might be some clever ones out there.

Surprised some lefties aren't bleating about their 'ooman rights.

Some right-on liberal will soon start supporting them.
The answer is contained in the original post !

On this occasion they did their job admirably. Who knows how many other massacres that they have prevented by their activity ?

But it is impossible to make a country like Britain 100% secure, if we want to continue to live free lives as we do. When the underground bombers struck in 2005, they were just like 10,000's of other commuters that were using the transport system that day. How on earth are we supposed to prevent that kind of thing, unless its by the use of MI5 ?

You are doing it again AOG. Let's just wait a little before jumping to conclusions over the Boston boms.

But, from your link...

// but were Boston blasts the work of right-wing extremists?

But apparent lack of suicide bomber could suggest domestic attacker. //
There is still scant information available on making a judgement on who was responsible for this.

Alex Jones, mouthpiece of the frothing at the mouth conspiracy theorist, claims the whole operations "stinks" of being a false flag operation - that this is US government inspired in an effort to devalue the Tea Party - or something.

It was the Boston Marathon, and the bombing was carried out on Patriots Day, a civic holiday in Massachusetts, and is to commemorate the first batles of the American Revolutionary War. Is the target and the date a coincidence, or is it an indication that this was the work of some extremist US libertarian individual or group?

Far too early to tell. Have to see what develops. Regardless, it was an appalling tragedy, and a vicious attack on civilians. Bombs packed with ball bearings are clearly aimed at inflicting the maximum damage to human life and limb.

Surprised some mindless right winger hasn't contructed a straw-man argument based on a stereotype

Oh - Right
