i'm suffering from really bad hair loss for a while now and it's really getting to me it used to be quite thick but now it's really thin. i've just come out of my teens and now it seems to be getting worse.
please can anyone tell me what i can do about it.i would really appreciate any useful tips.
someone told me to take iron tablets and my hair will stop falling out and will become thicker.has anyone tried this and have you had any luck?

I'm assuming you've already been to your doctors about this? If not that will be your obvious first port of call.

This I'am told works and may be worth your while giving it a whirl. Go to a good Chemist and ask for 'compound of coconut' (a good chemist will know what your talking about)
It apparently has to be made up fresh to order and can be kept in a fridge for up to a month. How you apply it, I dont know, but maybe you could phone an order through and arange to collect it. Good Luck Tbird+

wooo12 (coolo name) i stopped straightning and using a hair dryer ages ago since i turned 17 and got my hair cut short sho i could get rid of the damaged hair.and back then it hardly fell out.
lilacben i'm going to make another appointment. i haven't put on any weight (i'd like to though) i do feel tired but i think that's since the hot weather started.

Hi, 2nosey, you've probably already found some good advice but I wanted to let you know - I have anemia and take the iron (ferrous sulfate) tablets. One of anemia's side effects was excessive hair loss (another effect was being a bit lightheaded after simple things like climbing stairs).
But another reason for excessive hair loss is a lack of protein in your diet. Check out what you're eating - maybe you need more lean meats (or, if you're vegetarian, the appropriate subsitute). I increased the amount of chicken, turkey & fish in my diet and that has made a huge difference - no more excessive hair loss.

thanks for your post very informative i don't think i have enough protien in my diet but i have chicken nearly everyday.i'm going to start making an effort i've got a wedding to go to and i don't want to look like smeagol form lord of the rings.i think i'll take a trip to asda tomorrow.
by the way did the ferrous sulfate do anything for your hair?

Since I started taking the iron and increasing the protein at the same time, it's hard to know which one (or both) actually worked, but now my hair is thicker and healthier. The iron definitely made the difference in not being so tired and lightheaded. My doc did a blood test to check my hemoglobin levels. I didn't have enough oxygen in my blood, and that's what confirmed the anemia diagnosis. If you do have blood tests, you may want to check for low oxygen levels.
But, of course, that's not the only reason for excessive hair loss (especially if that's your only symptom). A good and easy first step would be to examine your diet - maybe the protein increase will help. It may take some time to have an effect, though.
A note, here - if you start taking iron, be aware that in many of us the iron causes digestive distress. It usually subsides after a week or two, but it can take some getting used to.
Have fun at the wedding! I'm sure you'll look properly glam and not at all gollum.
