Things such as deeds, wills, transfers, loan agreements, mortgages, etc etc
do they make a copy for files or do they just witness things?
my dad wants to check all his paperwork but doesn't want my mum to know - and she deals with most of it - so he just want to see copies and records of changes and dealings etc.
many thanks

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.My solicitor would keep a copy of things that HE has drawn up for me, that way he can refer to it without me dropping a copy back to him. Also to justify the billing hours to the Law Society. He would only keep the deeds to a property if the mortgage was paid in full and if I paid him an annual fee to. Your Dad is well within his rights to log a new will and place it in the hands of the solicitor without notifing anyone. It is the most recent will that will apply. If your Mum is the one who normally deals and she drops by - there is every chance that one of the ancillary staff might say innocently "it was so nice seeing mr X last week" so I would make sure all the staff are told this is a confidential matter, or it might come back and bite him in the bot. love Sense.
p.s. also ask them to check in the awaiting action file not just the completed files to avoid any "errors" or omissions7
