Parent's Debt

It seems my late mother owes £3000 in unpaid council care home costs. There was no property to sell as she lived in a council flat prior to going into the home. The last of her savings was used up on the cost of the funeral. Can I, as next of kin, be pursued for this debt.

Can anyone advise.

Any debts are recovered from deceased's
estate....if no estate left it will be written off.....they may ask you...but you are not liable....

as mm says, its not your debt, so you do not have to pay.

I suggest the executors send the council a simple statement of the estate's assets and liabilities.
If there are no assets left after the funeral has been paid for there is nothing they can take, unless they want to explore whether the money spent from the estate on the funeral was excessive, but I very much doubt the council would do that

Sad times for you Nathan, but don't worry about the debt, you cannot be pursued for the money.
