Long story short, me and my Fiancee are thinking of moving from England to America. I'm a qualified chef, and she's an experienced waitress/bartender. So Ideally we'd want to work in a similar industry, and ideally together. But we're clueless as to where to begin when it comes to persuing this dream...

Where would be best to look for jobs and accomodation (rented ideally). and what about Visas? Like I said, at the moment it's just a dream but any information would be greatly appreciated as we'd love to persue this further.

Thanks in advance ^_^

With respect...

You have nearly zero chance of it happening, neither of you have any skills that would enable you yo get a visa to live and work in America.

OK, Like I said this was just an enquiry :) but thanks for that, we didn't really consider that :)

Also what about canada? I've heard they're a lot less stringent when it comes to 'vetting' possible imigrants...
It's really hard to get a visa to emigrate to America. if you are thinking of doing it based on your work skills then you need to have a skill that is listed as being an important one and is lacking in "native" people that have that skill.... sorry to say, chef and waitress generally do not come under that heading!
This site may help

Or, you could contact hotel chains, good luck

The grass is not always greener on the other side.
Travel & work experience in pastures new is an adventure....you dont know where it will lead unless you explore.
You can live and work anywhere within the EU.
That might be an easier option
You need to investigate getting a green card, that will allow you to live and work in the USA
http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/united_kingdom-royaume_uni/visas/work_temp_travailler.aspx

That particular page gives info on visas etc for temporary work, explains special programmes for more permanent work, and the site itself gives info on immigrating to Canada
Once you check out the sites listed above, it would be of great help (I live in the U.S.) to know if you have a section or State (or even a city) in which you're interested...
In case you think of Australia - it's almost impossible to migrate unless you have a job to go to. There is a shortage of doctors and nurses in case you want to improve your skills in order to gain entry.

I knew Australia was out of the picture, I have friends there and they struggle to get long term work visas let alone permanent residence. Besides I'm not a fan on the climate :P

Thankyou for the canada information page im just reading that now.

And if the US was on the agenda somewhere like Philadelhia, nowhere too obvious like the usual suggestions of NY and California :P
if climate is an issue (it certainly would be for me), consider their winters as well as their summers, which can be quite bitter.
