Sitting in the garden today enjoying the sun and I found an insect making is way across my newspaper.

I was small, green, about 1cm long and very thin. It moved in what I can only describe as resembling a slinky. No legs but threw itself forward and concertinaed its body up to meet itself. It might have been a larva I suppose, it was small and wormlike but with this distinct movement.

Any ideas what it was?

That was it! Or that's what it will be when its a little longer than 1cm.
Thank you.
Aww :-) Sweet song!
I thought so. They often 'abseil' out of beech trees on enormously long threads of gossamer - bless 'em.
