I saw a snippet in the papers this morning about pensioners having to pay £30 per night when they go into hospital, anyone heard anything about this, and why just pensioners?

whatever next ? wheres the petition ?
I can't find anything about this via Google, or by looking at the websites of the well known daily/Sunday papers.
This is all getting a bit unfair isn't it, most of us pensioners have worked for everything! If the lazy so and sos of today got off their asses and found work and paid into the system, we wouldn't be penalized.
Dee Sa, it's £35 to sign the petition :-)
What paper?
caran I can't find this anywhere either...have you got a link please? or at least which paper was it in?
Oh goody! Pay tax through the nose and have to pay more for hospital. Where are you Nye? You must be rolling in your grave if this is true.
I think it might be best to read the article before jumping on the bandwagon.
Sounds like a good idea to me.
Sweaty - do you have a death wish?
I doubt very much that it is true, otherwise the internet would be rife with indignation, there would be links to petitions on Facebook and Twitter would be buzzing with it.
sweaty?
svejk translates from Danish as sweaty
I would stake my bacon roll on that never happening.
Morning MrsO,x, how are you this morning. Good, I hope.
Someone (oap, actually) called around for a coffee & chat.
Apologies for my absence.
I am well thank you sweaty. I hope you have a good day xx
I suppose it would depend on what I was getting for my £30...only there is a really dishy radiologist at my hospital... ;-) x

How going into hospital affects State Pension

Your weekly State Pension is not affected by being in hospital, even if you stay in hospital for longer than 52 weeks. You can also continue to earn extra State Pension or a lumpsum payment if you stay in hospital while you are putting off claiming your State Pension.

I'm sure NJ is right but I must admit I read something ages ago that if you were having a long stay in hospital you had to hand your pension over........
You did used to, not sure when it stopped, it was a real pain, people genuinely didn't know, partners wanted to haul their other halves out of hospital because they couldn't afford to take the income cut, admin at hospital level was a nightmare, the dap used to try to claw it back and the folk they tried to claw it back from had no money....horrendous
