What do insurers mean by ' incidents ' 'accidents'

If you notice for example that your wing mirror is folded , but you did not fold it down your self - is that classed as an accident ( assuming something / an event must have caused it to fold )

But is the wing mirror damaged?
Question Author
no damage
So why would insurers be involved?
Question Author
I'm simply asking what do - they - class as an incident or accident .

They dont say an incident or accident which causes ' damage '

Why would insurers be involved if ther's no damage?
I know as far as the police are concerned there's no such thing as an accident.

Where there's blame, there's a claim
An 'incident' can be either accidental or deliberate?
Question Author
OK - what i'm getting at is this .

From the example i've given - if you were filling in a proposal form would you answer yes or no to the question -

' have you had any incidents or accidents ' ?
an accident (IMO) is if something strikes you or you strike them - an incident could be a near-miss, or vandal damage, or theft of your vehicle.

If I were you Baz,
I'd tell them, just in case,
I mean I know how you worry!
Question Author
if it were you baldric - what would you do ?
I wouldn't tell them about a folded mirror - no harm done, think nothing of it.

An incident, imo, is a scrape in a car park when you are not in the vehicle, perhaps by a supermarket trolley; or your car is hit by a falling branch in a storm.
> ' have you had any incidents or accidents ' ?

If you have had any incidents or accidents, the answer is Yes. Otherwise the answer is No.
Exactly^^^^
Jeez

I wouldn't tell them a thing that they didn't need to know!
Question Author
that does not tie in with your previous answers zacs
I'd say an accident is something that happens when you are driving regardless of blame. Incident would be theft of or from, attempted theft of or from, malicious damage or someone hitting your car when you are not in it. The latter may be a bit of a grey area because the incident would be an accident. But the emphasis is on you having the accident, not someone else having the accident while you are tucked up in bed when they overcook it on a bend and take out the side of your car as a result of them having had 23 halves of lager.
