Anyone know how to clean a tie

I'm forever spilling food on my tie as well as it getting generally diry over time - ive tried cleaning one in the washing machiine and the cotton inside came out and the tie was ruined. I'm really crap at handwashing


Any ideas??

Agreed, some can be washed but it seems the only way to find out is try (with obvious results).

Dry cleaning seems to be the best way, I'm sure your local dry cleaner will have some sort of 10 ties for �2 type deal.

Have you ever tried using a baby's bib. No more marked ties. Seriously you could just tuck a napkin in at your neck to cover your tie. :-)

It's asking for trouble putting a tie in a washing machine, especially if it's a silk one. Even silk ties can be hand washed if you're prepared to do it carefully. Fold the tie up, put it into hand warm water into which soap powder but preferably liquid soap has been dissolved. Swish around gentle for a few minutes without allowing the tie to become tangled up. Rinse in lukewarm water and let the tie drip dry. Press on the wrong side using a damp handkerchief or cloth if you don't have a steam iron.
