You often hear people after they've been pooed on or stepped in poo say "hey it's good luck"

Where did this twaddle come from? How is an animals diseased and parasite filled waste which can blind you or make you very ill if the bacteria or parasites come in contact with your mouth be good luck?

What's the origins of this?

Well if you think about it, it's said by the person accompanying the person who has been hit. So by saying it's lucky the person is really saying It's lucky it didn't fall on me. Origin? lost in the mists of time.

Please don't pooh-pooh this post.
I am sure that the OP has some serious peer-reviewed research to support her assertions about disease.
Foot and mouth, perhaps?

I read somewhere that it was a one-in-a-million chance, like hitting the lottery, therefore lucky.
Only time it happened was many years ago while kissing a girlfriend in a park.
Bam! Right in the back of the head. Lucky? No, she turned out to be a total b!tch.
Omen, perhaps.
And of course, there's this old joke.

Hitting the lottery, as AZardoz puts it, would be fortunate. Getting hit by bird-poo would merely be fortuitous, and not at all lucky.
