I Keep Hearing Noises Like A Touchtone...

Everytime I go out in my back garden I hear noises like someone constantly punching buttons on a touchtone telephone, there is no pattern to it and sometimes it is louder than other times. What could it be? Any help appreciated.

Starlings? they are great mimics and have a huge repertoire of songs. One by me does a perfect car alarm.

We had a blackbird that used to do R2D2 amongst other strange noises.

Starling sounds likeliest. Different noise levels suggest that the source is moving from place to place. And starlings are notorious for learning and copying repetitive, high pitched, sounds they hear; the old trimphone ringtone was a favourite .

No, don't think it's a bird, I think it may be coming from inside my neighbours house as I was in the back garden last night and they came outside their back door and the noise got louder when their door was open then quieter again when they shut the door. Don't want to ask them as it might be something dodgy but I'm pretty sure now that's where the sound is coming from.
