Hi Steve
I just posted a lengthy reply but unfortunately the connection was lost, as I was about to submit it, and as a consequence so was all my work typical!!
Anyway I will retype some of it but if you need any more info please dont hesitate to ask. I have lived here off and on for over thirty years and so have a good opinion of Stockton.
Best places to live really depends on your budget but:
Hartburn (Surbiton - 2 miles out 150K - 500K)
Fairfield (Hartburns cheaper but still nice neighbour 0 100K - 300K)
Woviston court - Billingham (5 miles out - 50K to 300K)
Wolviston village (lovely but 150K to 1 million)
Wynyard (rub shoulders with Midlesbro footballers and millionaires - 300K to 5 million)
Ingleby Barwick - Massive housing estate with a massive variation in housing styles - 100k - 750K)
Norton or Yarm - Very nice old villages. Yarm the better and more expensive of the two
Carlton, redmarshall, bishopton, stillington - farming villages - very nice
Avoid Thornaby, oxbridge.
Crime in Stockton is very low, mainly just petty stuff. Serious crime doesn't really happen here.
The town itself is a reasonable size and is home to 200 000 people. It has numerous pubs and restaurants, supermarkets and good shopping facilities.
Middlesbrough is 5 miles down the road and offers more shopping, better restaurants and more of a city environment.
We are very close to the countryside (half hour) and only 45mins from Newcastle.
I hope this info helps, if you need more please ask.
Best regards
Mark
To Snook, Mark and Marky B,
Just a quick thankyou to you all for the replies. I was down in Stockton last week and found the advice a good help. I only got back here yesterday to post this thanks.
I am back down again next week and will be for the next few months until house move etc takes place.
Cheers, Steve.
