What is the most intelligent land animal after man

I have been running a pub quiz at our local for about 7 weeks now.
I use A quiz book to get my questions and answers. The answer to one f the questions
"what is the most intelligent land animal after man" is "the Gorilla" A lot of the locals in our pub disagreed with this and thought it should have been the "Chimpanzee" which to be honest would have been the answer I would have given, but I can only go off whats in my book. I wondered if it was a bit of a trick question as it said "Land" animal and not just animal, as chimps spend most of their time in the trees? can anyone answer this one for me. the book doesn't specify where it gets it's answers from, bit it is called "The Biggest Pub Quiz Ever" by Carlton
