I've mentioned a number of time the Fulton Fish Market... I know, I know... a Fish Market!? But if you want to experience the real New York and new Yorkers, this is an experience I highly recommend. Besides, the time to be there is really early and there are lots of good restaurants for breakfast and... well, you read about here...

And welcome to the U.S.!

Ice skating either in Central Park or at Rockafeller Plaza.
Get a subway down to Coney Island - takes ages but is fantastically atmospheric in the winter.
Get the Staten Island ferry - costs next to nothing but you get the best panaromic view in the world.
Tour of Radio City.
Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge.
Go for pasta in Little Italy.
Slice and a soda at Ray Bari's Pizza.
The Guggenheim - The Met - NY Library - Grand Central Station.
Notice these all cost nothing or next to nothing - you dont have to spend alot of money to have a good time.
If you do want to spend some serious money consider dinner at the Four Seasons!
If not on a tight budget, try Bobby Van's for an unforgettable steak. Definately do Grand Central Station.
I was blown away just being there - loved it. Empire State Building is a must; we walked through Central Park in deep snow - brilliant, but you are dependent on the weather for that! Agree with Staten Island Ferry, Grand Central & The Guggenheim. I'd add MOMA if you're into modern art. Go out & buy breakfast somewhere round Times Square - & go to the Native American museum down in The Battery; one of the best musuems in the city and FREE!

Defenatley do Grand Central Station, and a horse drawn carriage at Central park watch out for que jumping, I enjoyed walking around ground Zero (in a morbid way) very strange.

Another tip plan your days there is so much to do, we ended up getting a taxi eveywhere one day becasue its just too far to walk to see everything.

And enjoy What a city The Fish market is a veyr good one.

Ellens stardust diner.com ,remember when Monica in friends worked at the fifties style restaurant .Enjoy
My friend and I were there last month and I would definately recommend Grand Central Station (it is AMAZING!), a walk round Greenwich Village and Top of the Rock, the recently reopened (after 30 years) top of the Rockefeller Centre. We went up the Empire State at night and Top Of The Rock during the day as you can see Central Park and also get the BEST views of the Empire State! Central Park was fantastic (we went on Sunday morning and it seemed that half of New York was there!) and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, we only 'did' the American (some of the Tiffany stuff is wonderful), Chinese and Egyptian sections, but well worth doing, especially when you walk into this huge room and see a real Egyptian Temple! What ever you end up doing I'm sure you'll have a great time!
