Washing Machine Not Fit For Purpose

My indesit washing machine is less than 3 years old, I have an extended warranty and have so far called the engineer out once and just had to do it again - less than 5 months since the last visit.

It is the same problem again - the circuit board.

It cannot be right to have to call an engineer out twice in a machine so young.

Do I have any right to demand a replacement or a refund?

I don't think that you have any leg to stand on at the moment. You could send a letter registering your disquiet on this and asking them for a full overhaul, and then request their action if it was to happen again......

2 faults in 3 years is hardly ' not fit for purpose' . You have been lucky I had a new Hotpoint (same company different name) that went wrong 8 times in 6 months they eventually offered me a new one but I refused it and got a refund. I thought a new one may well be just as bad.
Too late now but an extended warranty is not worth the money , NEVER buy one again, they are a rip off.

The engineer who came out in december told me the call out and circuit board and service would cost approx £150, on the basis that the same thing has gone again I am looking at the same price.

My extended warranty so far has cost me £75!

Your washing machine’s extended warranty is probably an insurance contract in which the risk will have been calculated in the usual manner and if you have had work done which you value at £300 (including profit) for a premium of £75, celebrate the fact that you are winning. The 1979 Sale of Goods Act, improved by the 1994 Act provides you with statutory rights two of which are that the goods must be of satisfactory quality and they must be suitable for the purpose intended, as E51 says two breakdowns may not prove you have faulty goods.

You can buy a new washing machine outright for not much more than £150.
I presently have a reconditioned machine, it cost £60 with 6 month warranty, has worked fine for over a year now. The last one was reconditioned as well that cost £50 and worked without a fault for 5 years.
