American Megatrends
5 Answers
When I switch on my laptop, it comes up with details about American Megatrends, which I can't seem to remove to allow me to access anything else on my laptop. Until yesterday, when I first switched on my laptop I got my menu. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the American Megatrends so that I can use my laptop ?

American Megatrends is the company that makes you AMI BIOS.
Your computer is probably going straight to the BIOS setup screen. This could be cuase by a stuck key on the keboard, or if you the CMOS battery on your motherboard is dead. There should be a menu displayed allong the top and/or bottom of the screen, which you can access via the cursor keys.
You could try this:
If you have exit on the top menu, use the cursor keys to select it, and hit enter. Then Cursor down to choose "Load setup Defaults", and hit enter.
Hit F10 to save and exit.

So it look like your computer is going into the BIOS program for some reason instead of booting into Windows.
Normally to get into the BIOS you have to press a key on the keyboard so maybe one of your keys is stuck down on your keyboard, meaning it always goes in to the BIOS.
Turn off the computer, then run your fingers up and down the keyboard, trying to loosen every key in case one is stuck down.
Also turn the keyboard upside down and gently shake it in case something is stuck between the keys (if you have been eating maybe a breadcrumb could have fallen in the keyboard).
If you have a clean fine paintbrush try pushing this in between the keys to loosen anything that may be stuck. Or use an ear bud.
After doing all this then turn the computer on and see if that makes a difference.
