BBC Radio Stoke presenter Paula White was taken off air during her final lunchtime broadcast before she moves to a weekend slot.
She was incoherent through alcohol (which she denies)was replaced after thirty minutes of rambling and playing wrong material.
The great thing is - she is STILL on the 'listen again' section until Friday - go for it - http:// www.bbc .co.uk/ program mes/p01 817jp.

Alcoholics excel at working when appearing sober. When they are reaching the end, when the addiction has taken over completely, they drink so much that even their astonishing capacity for burning off alcohol, and working with a large amount in them, collapses. No normal person gets that drunk when they know they have to work; they stop well before that stage.
Fred, that is a ludicrous, and possibly libellous statement.
You cannot base your asesertion on one radio broadcast by someone you don't know from Adam.
Yes she was probably drunk, but that does not make her an alcoholic.
Yes she was unprofessional, but 'near the end'?
You should beware of making such sweeping statements, it can get you into trouble.

We have had a selection of thick-as-a-brick locally born presenters who appeal to a narrow pensioner listener demographic, and they keep finding them! ///
Whoa there, Andy boy. Although not a pensioner myself, I can't let you get away with that one.
Is you saying only yoofs talk proper,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,innit?

Absolutely not. My 'pensioner' reference referred to the audience, who are acknowledged as the senior end of the local population. No station with a demographic of under sixties (in mind if not body!) would tolerate the kind of numpties that Radio Stoke uses to patronise the local populace.
By no means all of the presenters are the 'local character' variety - but the ones who are do not show the area in a good light - Ms. White being a prime example, not just for the debacle on Friday, but for her false 'radio' voice, and her revelling in being a somewhat dense 'local gal'.

I remember once on Radio 2 when Ken Bruce was on holiday, Stuart Maconie was standing in for him.
One morning Stuart just didn't turn up, and whoever was on breakfast hadto carry on for about twenty minutes.
Stuart then turned up, but could hardly get a sentence out and had to play loads of music.
I never heard anything said about it in the press, but I'm sure he was drunk or stoned.
