This is a proposal from the Home Secretary, Theresa May. While such a crime is heinous should it really attract a longer sentence than that handed down for the murder of a child?

No.
No, just because it is a cop killed does not mean it should be a difference sentence. All sentences for killing should be a long one.
Yes......I agree with the lady.

"Whole life" means different lengths of time for different people as it stands at the moment, but for killing a law enforcement officer it should be "whole life".
there's a thread on this on News

wherein the answer seems to be "no".
Yet another example to show me that I'm not important. Kill a policement and you get life. Kill a nurse or a postman or a firman or ..... well the rest of us don't count for so much obviously.
too true, kill an Old Geezer and you get three weeks in an open prison.
you get found guilty of murder, no matter what their occupation, then life should mean life not 15 years and out in ten minutes, imo.
No occupation should have nothing to do with it. What should have something to do with it is when someone murders someone particularly vulnerable like a child or a very elderly person, or someone disabled that cannot fight back. A police officer in the prime of life who has taken on a dangerous job really ought not to get more consideration than the rest of us.
No

Both crimes should carry the death penalty

a warning not to do it again, Steve? Or a warning not to do it more than 600 times again?
Politicians are people too... just about. Perhaps something like this would be appropriate?
