Always say '' I will have to put you on hold for a moment'' then walk away & return after a few minutes after the caller is using expensive 'phone time & if they are still there say '' please hold whilst we are tracing this call''. Normally they will have gone away or will not bother you again.

another technique is to go off-script -

them: you have a problem with your computer.
you: really? which one?

they cannot answer that.

Or say....that's strange, I don't have a computer.
