Frizettes

Does anyone remember 'Frizettes'? I remember them as a kid, a sort of batter that was fried and usually served with a fry-up type meal. Are they still around?

We now make our own using to following recipe and think they are quite close to the original taste. The pea flour we use is not chick pea flour but made from yellow split peas which we grind to a flour in a blender and store in an airtight jar. We also grind onion granules in a pestle and mortar to obtain onion powder. Here goes, using proper measuring spoons add these dry ingredients to a good sized tea cup
3 tablespoons plain flour
1 tablespoon pea flour
1 dessertspoon cornflour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon celery salt
Mix the dry ingredients well and then add enough water to mix to a smooth dropping batter, a bit thicker than Yorkshire batter. Get the fat in the frying pan smoking hot and then drop teaspoons of batter into the fat, scraping the back of the spoon on the edge of the cup to save drips. Fry until bubbles have risen over most of the surface and the bottom is a nice golden brown then flip over to brown the other side. drain on kitchen paper. Serve with bacon and eggs. Hope you like them as much as we do!
