I was woken in the middle of the night with agonising cramp in one of my calf muscles, got up this morning and can't put too much weight in it.

Is there anything I can do, I've got the dog to walk, a Tesco big shop and a marathon spring clean that needs doing as I've a load of family coming round on Sunday.

Of all the bloody days :(

Ta for any reples.

Ibuprofen 600mgs in one dose will stop the pain.....and exercise moderately.

Thanks sqad :)

I googled around a bit and read that quinine might help, bit too early for a GnT though ;)
Morning rocky
Quinine is rubbish.
Is this a one off or a regular occurrence?
rocky...LOL

Quinine sometimes works, but only as a preventative, as once the pain is there, quinine is useless.

;), I was only jesting, I'm not quite enough of a lush just yet to sit drinking at this hour, I'd at least wait until elevenses!

Mrs O, it's not regular thank god, the pain was incredible.

I've took the ibuprofen and given the dog a stroll, it seems to be easing now.

Thanks again to you both.

Tonic water contains quinine, I drink tonic and rarely get cramp (it's only a trace, though)
I came off my Symvastatin because of the agonising cramps, they were so painful it was frightening, I was in pain for a few days after as well. Quinine rarely helps with the cramps, it apparently only helps in 20% of cases and quinine should not be taken regularly but I know some people do.
Slow mag and slow k are great preventatives.
brinjal that's interesting. I take calmagzinc tablets to manage mine.
Question Author
What's slow mag and slow K?
I get it after being on my feet all day and have to jump about to release the muscles. Socks seem to keep it a bay.
slow release magnesium and slow release potassium. calmagzinc is a tablet containing calcium, magnesium and zinc.

Thanks Woofy, does it have any other benefits apart from helping with cramp?
