Planting Rhubarb.

Is it imperative to first put well rotted manure into the hole?i bought an Early Timperley variety last week,it's a good size but,still in it's pot!Help please.

I would not say it is imperative. Ours has flourished after being forgotten and left in a carrier bag so I reckon they'll put up with a lot.
