I am getting cut off the internet after about 1-3 minutes after logging on I am
using mozila firefox as my search engine I have tried to get the answer on the
support page but no joy is this a deliberate ploy to frustrate dial up
customersa to go broadband as I know I used to get 2 hours before having to
redial whats going on?ANSWER FROM NTL ABOUT MY PROBLEMThere could be a number for reasons why you could have poor connections or
dropped connections.
The main ones are you are using a software modem which could need to have the
drivers updated or that you system resources are putting to much strain on your
modem.
There is a way that we can change this but we are unable to send this via email
as it means altering your Windows files. If you would like to configure your machine to stop this happening please call
us on 0906 217 0008 (calls charged at 25p per minute) where an agent will be
happy to help you through this.I have looked for better driver but already have best on board now any one help as I have been on before to ntl paid loads out and ended up getting my mate to sort last problem out but he has moved away now!

1. A fault with your phone line. (Get your service provider to check that the gain is set to maximimum).
2. A problem at the ISP's end of the connection. (Unlikely if you're the only person reporting the problem).
3. Your dial-up networking settings have become corrupted. This is probably the most likely cause. To check, go to your dial-up networking folder. (Depending upon your version of Windows, the route is probably something like Start > Settings > Dial-Up Networking or Start > Control Panel > Dial-Up Networking). Right-click the icon for your ISP. Select 'Properties'. Click the 'Dialling' tab. Now look at the place labelled 'Enable idle disconnect'. There should NOT be a tick next to it. If there is, click to remove it. (If it wasn't there anyway then, sorry, it's not the cause of your problem). Click 'OK'.
If the above solution doesn't work, you could also try running System Restore to take your PCs settings back to a date before the problem started to occur.
Hoping something here helps,
Chris

Actually, if you are using a software modem, NTL are probably right. Software modems are basically a pile of dog do. The idea is that you save about 2 pounds by having only half a modem, and your processor does all the rest of the work. Try borrowing a proper modem from a friend and working with that . If the problem goes away, invest in a new modem.
