Why Do Jersey Potatoes Not Taste Like They Used To?

I have bought from several outlets and none of them taste like they did years ago. Why?

Sorry don't agree with the age thing, they definitely don't taste like they used to or have such a waxy feel whereas lots of other things do taste the same as always. I'd guess they've been manipulated/managed to produce a far wider yielding crop and have lost some of their characteristics along the way.
Nothing tastes better than my spuds eaten within a few minutes of being dug. They never see anything other than organic soil and rainwater. Jerseys on the other hand are bred to withstand disease, forced to flourish earlier and earlier and packaged up in that awful clear plastic. Whatever happened to brown sacks? There's no wonder there's no taste left, we demand long shelf life over taste and freshness.
Years ago Jersey potatoes were sent from Jersey in small sacks, they had curly skins and the soft soil was reddish brown. They tasted lovely. Later some of the dodgier market stallholders used to mix a few other cheaper 'new' potatoes such as Cypriots to make up the weight. Nowadays Jersey seedlings are sold and grown over here. I haven't seen a 'proper' Jersey for years but they still charge the earth for them.
