thats because she isnt a cop she is an expert in metallurgy !
my personal favourite plot twist come in ocean 11,which although a cool movie has a couple of stupid plot lines - firstly the perfect mock-up of the vault for them to practice on and then when they think their caper has gone south unless they can make a really really big power surge to knock out the electricity.hmmmm but wherever are we gonna find a device to do such a thing ? well...youre never gonna believe whats just down the road !

isn't she? all the cops know her well and she seems to have her own desk and be a fixture at the station...maybe she just investigates certain cases...

haven't seen it for years, and thats all i could think of as a daft plot thing - i thought of this question because i just watched contagion but can't be bothered wading through the ridiculous plot holes in this film!

Mostly the ones that annoy me are the horror/ thriller types when you find out at the end that the person was mad, so basically it's all made up. Great. There is one film I can think of that did that and it really worked, but if I put what film it was people will know the ending!!

And the usual slasher types that although there is a psycho headcase with a machete in the kitchen, the girl chooses to run upstairs as opposed to through a downstairs window and into a room with nowhere to hide, or escape and with no defence.

All the Die Hard films!
He just happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time - all the time!

What about Under Siege with Steven Seagal?
Virtually every part of the 'plot' is a convenient contrivance.
The cook a former Navy Seal? Thats handy!

Also any major disaster movie where the earthquake/ fire/ meteorite strike/ Godzilla/ alien invader just happens to turn up in New York or Los Angeles but never in somewhere like Scunthorpe or Tipton.

lol GB - imagine godzilla squashing quaint little cottages and teas rooms and then tripping over the mini railway like its a roller skate!

One of the old biddies could be an amateur weekend bomb-disposal enthusiast - whose shed is a military-surplus arsenal that would make the A-team weep - and knows how to blow big G to smithereens, using a bottle of milton fluid and old mrs. blodgingthwaites bloomers.

Ok not really a plot twist, but now that you mention them. The A Team how come a crack group of soldiers can't shoot straight?
