she is appealing against the sentence of 17 years claiming it was too long, what do you think?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I just think she has a low mentality level, and probably didn't fully inderstand the possible outcome of their actions, but, there are other such people out there, and they have to be made to realise the dangers and possible loss of life from stupid actions. The judge must increase her sentance as a warning to others.
She's been found competent enough to stand trial, be found guilty and be sentenced. She's not asking for the sentence to be overturned, simply reduced as it's "too long".
If she had pleaded guilty and helped with the conviction of Mick Philpott, then a lesser sentence would have been appropriate.
As it is, she lied (about her and his part in the death of six children) in an attempt to get them both released back into society. Given that, I think she was lucky to get only 17 years ...
