My wife wants to make some fabric covers to protect just the arms of our sofas. However we was wondering if she was able to download a pattern from the internet. Is there a name for this type of cover? I have tried a google search but am inundated with 'car' related products. Any suggestions most welcome.

I dont think they have a name. why doesn't she make them 1st out of paper cut to size then use as template for the fabric.
Happyface, They are called Antimacassars .Look for this name in Google.
antimacassars are the covers for the backs of chairs, macassar being a hair oil, they usually come as a set I think, or used to.
Antimacassars. Usually found in the first class carriages of trains. They soak up the Brylcreem instead of the seat backs.
I was looking for the same covers recently - just for the arms. Didn't want to make them - too lazy - but found them in a curtain\fabric shop - 2.99 - for a pair - I just asked for protective arm covers for chairs\settees . Perhaps your wife could buy something like this and copy it in her own material.
HappyFace, To confirm yesterday's reply :- Websters 1917 Dictionary ----- " antimacassar n. A cover to protect the back or arms of a chair, sofa, etc. macasser oil or other oil from the hair "
