Bank Account Names

At the moment I only have a current account. Can I open a deposit account and give it any name I want (as long as I provide evidence of my ID and address to the bank etc)? For example, if I want to call it Tiddles or MyDosh or William etc, am I free to call the account whatever I want - or must it be my name?

I've got a current account and more than one savings account with Halifax. The current is in my own name but with the savings ones, on on-line banking I can rename them to whatever I like. So I've got 'Holiday Fund', 'Real Savings' and a couple of others. Is this what you mean?

Who would be paying into it? To pay into an account, folk only need the account code and sort code, the name just confirms that the details are correct. Online, I can nickname my accounts anything I like. I guess the base answer would be to ask your bank......

The bank only identify an account by the sort code and number. You can call it what you want . The account will be in your name but you can add other names if you want ''A B Smith. Dosh Account'' for example.

You can't call yourself HRH, so you couldn't call your account HRH Duke of Barquentine.
