If ever I send one of the Junior O's to the shop with a £20 note (or even a £10 note), I always write my initials on the corner of it.
It has just paid dividends as youngest Junior O has been for some milk and the assistant tried to short change him. He stood his ground and demanded to see the last £20 placed in the till. As he could identify it, she had to then give him the correct change.
Result!
We used to have an assistant in our Co-Op that regularly gave too much change. I lost count of the amount of times I had to correct her. She also once gave a man £80 in phone top-up for nothing as she thought the lack of a receipt coming out meant the transaction hadn't occured.
Ignore them B00, they are just making it up as they go along. My son goes shopping for me regularly, everyone in the village knows he has Aspergers Syndrome and none of the shop assistants have EVER short changed him.
I'm just puzzled why ladyalex continues to send her kids to shops if they're continuously getting short changed, or even why they're continuing to shop there at all.
Unless it's EVERY shop their child goes too? S'not a conspiracy is it?
ladyalex have you ever worked in retail? I doubt it, if you had you would know that when a till is tallied at the end of a day you will be in trouble with your boss if it is regularly over the amount it should be. There are usually CCTV cameras above each till to prevent any shop assistant pocketing money that should either be placed in the till or given as change to a customer.
Sorry to both of you, Boo and Daffy.
Clearly I am completely wrong in my observations and a bad mother to boot.
Oh, and paranoid too.
Shopkeepers are all as honest as the day and would never countenance short-changing anyone, especially not a child.
All of us who have suspected such goings on should be ashamed of ourselves and seek psychiatric advice.
Maybe your child is just keeping the change, or you live in a really dodgy part of the UK ladyalex. You are happily insulting all retail workers here and now trying to be all huffy because you can't back up your claims.
Many small shops have tills that do not require the denomination to be keyed in.
Whenever I have been short changed it has always been a small shop. We have one local newsagents I boycott as the husband and wife are renowned for stiffing the customers.
