IS Thailand a good place to go to this year? Does anyone know how the country is looking after the tsunami? i've always wanted to go here, but not sure if i should. Whats the weather like in aug/sept?

This is the very time you should go. The Thais have made every effort to regain some sort of normality and rely heavily on tourism for their economy. Regarding weather, the only thing to check for would be the monsoon season and I can't remember when that is. Apart from that, be prepared for the heat and humidity. In answer to your question : Yes, Thailand is a good place to go and you won't regret making the effort.
