I changed my son's surname from mine to his dad's last year by deed poll. It was all done online and was easy to do, didn't cost much either and I was able to order lots of extra copies of the deed so I could post them out to school, doctor etc.

Just make sure it is registered properly. I cahnge minbe by statutory declaration in the 70's and it was never registered and have had so much trouble esp here in Spain where they do not understand it, and I could not prove it. Having said that, I cannot get rid of the damn name now however hard I try:
and remember..... when the would be budding actor Penis Lorry-Lesbian changed his name at his agent's behest, (you'll never get work with a name like that etc etc) he neva er deviated on his road to stardom, as Dick van Dyke !
Yeah I worry about inheritance, - my partner has a name plingy-ploingy-ploo and trades under the name Ploo. The bank made fearful difficulties about this on the grounds of money laundering. You can't they said (why not?) have an account in the name of Ploo... so OK can we pay cheques in the nae of Ploo into PLingy-ploingy-ploo - no not really.
Oh yes you can actually - the manager was just have a pis*y day.
Driving licences - the police dont mind - apparently 50% of licences presented on a 'producer' dont exactly match the name. Sam for Samuel, Antony and Anthony - they take it in their stride. My name is PPP and I drive under the name Ploo, and they didnt turn a hair.
(names have of course been changed)
