I went to see my GP this morning for a steroid injection into my knee. It was a very big needle and oh boy did it hurt. It also set my teeth on edge as I felt the needle scrape on the underside of my kneecap.
I got by with several sharp intakes of breath and managed to say "Gosh, this is more painful than I thought."
When he had pulled the needle out, my GP looked thoughtfully at the tray the syringe had been on, picked up a second syringe and said "Ah, I forgot to give you the local anaesthetic first."
Do I get a sticker and a lolly for being brave?
You have my sympathies Mrs O. I had to have my knee stitched once - didn't feel the first one, felt the rest though the local anaesthetic didn't work very well. The Doc offered to stop and try again - stupid here said, not to bother and to get on with it ......... won't do that again in a hurry!
Many moons ago, at an ENT hospital which is no longer there, I had a chronic nasal problem which meant over a period I saw several young doctors on their ENT rotation.
Funniest was the Irishman, who was about to give me an injection, and told me to roll up my trouserleg!
Another, from Singapore but of Chinese extraction scared the day lights out of me by suggesting implanting steel rods in my nose. I eventually figured he meant steroids!
