My 2011 car is at the Merc dealer on Tuesday to have the tyres checked as they said the tread was low when it had its first service
Mileage is 20k so I think this is low for new tyres as I have had many new cars and got around 30k per set,
Also, is having the dealer fit new tyres part of the warranty or can I search around for cheaper Yokohama tyres?
Thanks

Do you have to use the Merc Dealers? any garage will do the service properly provided they are VAT Reg, ask them to use the Gen Merc parts this will not effect the resale price, & also get your service book stamped by them, regards your tyres, If you have the time, search around but do not use K.F. they may recommend you need a new engine, for a full Merc service I would think you are looking in the region of £200>>£300! am I correct? for a family run garage you can half the cost.

I'm on a service plan so these services aren't a shock cost
So tyres aren't needed from the dealer as part of warranty?
I should think not, the warranty should only cover the service with genuine oil / filters / parts if needed, you can get your tyres any where you want, but they may try it on.
Doubt whether tyres are in the warranty; things that wear out in the normal course of driving generally aren't. Think the dealers are having you on; there's more profit in tyres than anything else, so the quicker they can have you replace them, at the prices they charge, the better for them. The tyres are still legal, no doubt.
Incidentally what are Yokohama brand tyres? What's on the car now ? Get the same make and specification from a specialist tyre place if you really feel the need to get new tyres at this stage. They won't be charging top price.
Tyres fitted will not be covered by the warranty, best to go to an independent tyre fitting company and let them do the job, plenty around, am guessing its a 180 or 220. Which are known for using rubber, around 20k on a set is what I would expect.

Sorry just catching up on line
I think Yokohama are what Merc fit from new
I've had the car since 10k miles and they were on then
Good tyres, uncle al.
Dealer tyres are increasingly lower performance than the ones you buy, uncle al - it's an American cost-cutting thing that has been transposed to the EU. 20k is not bad as with Ford/GM/Chrysler you can be lucky to get 10 to 15.

Bet they are outside of warranty but check, as there are too many variables in play (such as all the grit on roads, this past winter).
