Connecting A Wi-Fi Printer To A Standalone Computer
I'm trying to connect a Wi-Fi printer to my standalone computer (I'm not part of an network)but am having problems with connections.
All is fine with the install disk until I get to a stage where I'm asked to connect the printer to the network or connect via an USB cable.
When I select the network option the error message is "can't connect under present network environment. Selecting the USB option defeats the purpose of Wi-Fi
Has anyone got an idiots guide as how I can set up a network for a single computer as the instructions and online help are difficult for me to understand.
My operating system is Windows XP pro
thank you in advance

I'm fairly sure you need a wi-fi network already in place for them both to connect to - they don't connect directly to each other, but through a wi-fi router, that should be already set up and running. Without this set up, I'm fairly sure it won't work.
You have to download and install from the Microsoft web site Link Layer Topology Discovery Responder software for use with WIFI networks you must have SP3 installed as well. You can connect your printer by USB but you must install the printer software on your computer first as a USB connection . The disc that came with your printer should give you that option during the installation.
