Simulating Dead Laptop

Short of removing the battery from an ancient laptop, how can I simulate a fault which would seem to indicate that the laptop is dead or terminally ill?

I'm trying to persuade my daughter to buy a new one rather than her getting me to consisently get me to fix the machine using a "black tape and chewing gum" approach. It's not as if she can't afford a new laptop and there's only so much a dad can do before calling it a day!

Many thanks

Oh daddy, why don't you buy me a new laptop instead of posting this on here? You are embarrassing me. :(
Easy, you just say "I can't fix it this time."
Drop it 'by accident'.
first put out the ram sticks and frac it with rubber ans then insert it again if the problems is solve then it is good either it is a problem of your hard disk.
