Where Is Your 'war On Terror' Now President Bush?
162 Answers
After this country slavishly followed the war-monger Bush in his laughably termed 'war on terror' (How can you fight a war against a concept?) and after all the loss of lives as soldiers 'protect' us - it has come to this.
It's as easy as two maniacs with weapons to kill people on British streets.
All that military power, time, money, casualties and deaths on both sides to 'protect' us, and how protected are we really?
Surely the time has come to accept that we can never 'win' this war, but we must try and find a solution to the hatred that drives Moslem extremists to hate the West so much.
If the numpties in the EDL start their 'revenge', then let's not imagine that Afghanistan will start happening right here, right now.
Enough is enough - time to try and sort this out with dialogue, because guns and bombs are not working for anyone.

The problem is - as Woollich has proven, it only takes a couple of nutters with knives to make a total mockery of the 'safety' afforded by our troops in Afghanistan.
If, as the government claims repeatedly, our troops are there so that we can be safe here, would it seem disingenuous to suggest that on this evidence, it's not flamin' well working????

Well I am afraid the last sentence gives up the answer. The guns and bombs are working for somebody - the Islamists themselves. We in the West abide (as a norm) by the accepted and sometimes the legally enshrined mores of the society in which we live. We accept a balance between rights and obligations. Admittedly that balance is already much jeopardised by the HRA and the litigation it has bred. However, the Islamist does not accept the legality of the Western country in which he chooses to reside and prefers a model of a harsher archetype. He does not use lobbying, political speechifying or even justification by his own example. We criticise the governance of Middle Eastern countries but the very liberties which we are most proud of have become casualties in the battles - to combat terrorism and to placate minorities. The sense of the core values of Britishness is virtually a dead letter and this is in part due to the Blair government's responses to terrorism and multiculturalism.
