Depends on the weather conditions, has it had plenty of water ?. although everything in the gardens seem to be late this year.
Question Author
Sowed it 7 days ago on patches, did everthing as instructed on the pack but nothing is happening. The packet said results in 5 days.It was well watered in and has rained a lot since then.
Did you roughen the soil up a bit first and was there any nitrogen pellets with it ?. When I have done a few patches in the past I have used an old table fork to slightly roughen the soil first and then sprinkled the grass seed and nitrogen pellets and then lightly covered the seed with soil. It seems to work for me.
Question Author
Exactly what I did down to the table fork. Still not growing. It is blooming cold here.
Got to be the weather conditions then giveup, what you could try to bring it on a bit is cover the area's you have seeded with clear plastic or polythene, this should give it a greenhouse affect.
Its a difficult year for germinating seeds. I think its just the cold thats stopping them. A few of my patches are growing where as others are as bald as they were a some weeks ago. Try again when the forecast is good and when you might get some heat in the soil.
Question Author
I'll give it a go--when it stops raining. Thanks Tony.
Could be the cold inhibiting germination, although 5 days sounds very optimistic to me.

Thanks Maydup
I would expect in optimum conditions....25c and a good mix of sun and rain, that grass seed should take 5-7 days to start showing. The colder and drier it gets, the longer it takes. I would estimate that in a cool summer, expect 7-21 days.

To all of you who gave me advice thank you.Since the weather has improved its growing well, only problem I had to cut the grass around the patches with shears because I couldn't use the mower(got the blisters to prove it.)
