Hi Ed, I've had another one of my genius ideas.

Quite often I'll be typing out a question or answer and then have to leave it, you know if the boss walks in or something. Or you want some time to think about it or look something up. Well if you've already typed something and go off site you'll lose it and i often forget what i wanted to say. It would be good to be able to save a draft of q&a's before posting so you can go back to them later.

What do you reckon?

agreed - those of us who have to post while pretending to be working are at a distinct disadvantage!
A drafts function more or less? Could be interesting. Certainly appeals to all out "ABing at work" crowd :)

I wonder if it members were given the chance to think about things they might not post so much (not sure if that would be a detriment to certain parts of the site?!)

What does everyone else think?
Like it, and the preview button back too please, so handy when posting links and typos.

Drafts basically yeah.

I like to think it would ensue more well thought out posts that encourage equally well thought responses. And I can't do that while I'm brown nosing in accounts can I! ;)
It's not just work. Sometimes someone might pop in and it's polite to close the laptop (apparently :-))
I like this idea, my kids have a habit of coming home from school regularly, usually while I'm half way through a post. It's very annoying as I have to give them my undivided attention, then I lose what I've typed.
if you're at work, then do what you get paid for.

jeez.
Question Author
I did give other examples than people just skiving :)

Don't worry about what anyone else thinks, the important people think its a good idea (that's me and you). I eagerly await my new badge ;)
Damn those pesky kids!!

Although the draw back might be that the question has been fully answered by the time you get to post and the posters might have moved on to say, errr, goats :-)

I've done it Alba. In too efficient.
also I believe copy and paste is quite handy too.
Just highlight what you have typed and right click 'copy'.

Then paste it back in later.

However if you leave it too long, the thread may have 'moved on' and you may look a bit foolish.
aah, that's a whole new ball game Evian :-D

Question Author
Copy and paste from where? That would mean I couldn't copy anything else until I'd posted. And saving in a word document is not an option as I only ever post on my phone or iPad. Plus that's a load of faff I CBA with.
I suppose you could open a new tab to check how the thread has progressed.
Question Author
If people are posting about goats on a proper thread then that's breaking Site Rules ;). And people often join a thread later, giving their opinion on the op whether the rest has moved on or not.
Yes, I too would like to see the preview option brought back. I find it easier to spot errors in AB's preview mode before posting more than the normal looking-over replies, before hitting the submit button.
Excellent idea EB. And as B00 says, we did have a preview button before which I found very useful for proof reading purposes.
What's wrong with goats?
Having a draft or preview option may stop someone posting something stupid that they may have written in the heat of the moment and instantly regret the second they hit submit.

I think it's a good idea.
