Me and my girlfriend are going to helsinki, finland for new years, and i was just wondering if anyone knows any where we can get cheap flights and hotels/hostels

For flights, try a search for flights at http://www.flightmapping.com/ whcih covers destinations on a searchable map for UK departyres - links then to carriers. Most carriers will also then offer links to get good rates for accommodation too.
Also, http://www.skyscanner.net/ is one of the most comp. flights sites - easy to search destinations too. eg it flags up Ryanairs �65 rtn. flights from Stansted inc tax depending on dates - make sure you get rates inc. taxes - Ryanairs site still refuses to show total costs so you have a nice surprise when you come to book.....
And you'll find Dec/Jan flights are a premium so don't expect rock bottom prices. You'll prob. be about the �200 per person mark with the low cost options.

Skyscanner is a good website but it's not infallible. I certainly hope that it's not offering any Ryanair flights to Helsinki because they don't fly there ;-)
(Ryanair fly from Stansted to Tampere but that means taking the Mobus bus service to Helsinki, which takes 2� hours and adds �25, each way, to your costs).
Blue 1 operate a direct, scheduled service between Stansted and Helsinki Vantaa. They'll fly you out on 26/12 or 27/12 for �70. On 28/12, the price rises to �105. There are no flights on 29/12/, 30/12 or 31/12 (or, if flights exist, they're already fully booked)
The return journey, with Blue 1, is priced at �85 on 01/01. There are no flights on 02/01 (or, more likely, all seats are already sold). On 03/01 the price rises to a whopping �255, before falling back to �85 on 04/01.
The prices quoted for flights with Blue1 don't include taxes and charges. (Add �51 to the total calculated from the prices given).

Finnair's prices ex Manchester are dearer. They're generally in the range �299 to �479 (although some flights are priced at over �800).
Possibly surprisingly, BA's flights from Heathrow seem to be the cheapest. They offer to fly you out for �86 on any day from 26/12 to 31/12. Return flights are also �86 on 01/01 and 04/04. On 02/01 they charge �164. On 03/01 the price is �138. Those prices are fully inclusive, so it seems that the cheapest return fare you'll find is �172, with BA ex Heathrow.

Great city! Great airport too! I fly Finnair a lot, even occasionally choosing to connect through Helsinki enroute to Tokyo or Stockholm. There is a way to save some money on the flight costs, but you have to be a bit of an anorak to want to do this. And I�m not sure the savings are worth the journey. You could use Aeroflot through Moscow. I�ve never done it but one of my anorak friends swears by it. But I don�t think it makes more than �25-30 difference in the fare. But as I say, he�s a true blue airline anorak.
I can�t even help you much on the hotels either. I stay at either the Kamp or the Intercontinental. I have, however, met friends at the Eurohostel, just off of Market Square, near the ferries. It�s an immaculate place and the rooms are nice. Apologies as I have no idea how much the rooms are. But I can attest to it being bright, airy, and clean�oh and convenient!

Well, it�s about an 8 block walk from the Kamp hotel and the Eurohostel is about 12 blocks in the other direction from the Kamp�.so a total of twenty blocks. You can catch the Vy�katu tram, which is about a block and a half from the Eurohostel and ride to the Lasipalatsi tram stop, which is about 2 blocks from The Tavastia club. You �could� walk it, but I promise you, it will be jolly cold!

The Eurohostel website states that the city centre is about 15 to 20 minutes walk away. (I interpret that as meaning 'about a mile'):

Using the 'get directions' facility, from that link (and pasting in the address of the Eurohostel) gives the distance as 3.3km (about 2 miles). The driving time is given as 12 minutes in clear traffic conditions or 20 minutes in heavy traffic, so a taxi shouldn't cost too much.

Helsinki is a best city for much enjoyable activities and an ideal place to spend the holidays.
As you are asking for some cheap and less expensive hotels then I would like to suggest you that "Cumulus Kaisaniemi" is one of the best hotel for you.
it is a little business hotel located in the central area of the city and here you will get the best accommodation service with good hospitality.
