can anyone recommend a hand cream for VERY sore hands? I suffer with them every winter and have tried lots of hand creams, including neutregena, which is supposedly used by norwegian fisherman!

Someone has recommended a silicone one from avon, - have you tried it?

It must be reasonably priced as I'm hard up at the mo'!

I have tried some that say they're not perfumed but even they sting like hell!

thanks CarolG, does it soak in ok?
Buy some cotton gloves from the chemist, smear loads of Vaseline on your hands at night, or olive oil, or baby oil, and put the gloves on. You will look a bit odd and your other half will laugh their head off (it's also not a good turn on but hey who cares as long as your hands are soft??) I do this a couple of nights a week and it helps keep your hands supple.
Try some hand cream or 'Dream Cream' from LUSH,all natural stuff & smells gorgeous!!
I think E45 cream works wonders for dry skin. Its cheap, un-perfumed and doesnt sting.
Nivea do a good range of hand creams.
i have quite bad eczema, my hands are often dry and cracked in winter.
it sounds quite strange, but try putting some E45 or vaseline on your hands, then putting some large food bags over the cream and securing them. it takes a bit of getting used to, and yur hands smell a bit in the morning, but i've done this every winter since i was little and it really works!
You can buy Aqueous Cream from most high street chemists - Boots do it. It's usually in a tube of 100g and kept behind the medicines counter - it's quite cheap (under 2 the last time I got some) and it's really gentle - it doesn't contain lanolin which is what aggravates dry skins conditions for some people. If you want a gentle moisturiser, always go for one that doesn't contain lanolin. Aqueaous Cream contains parrafin, water, wax and something calles chlorocresol which sounds scary but is less worrying than the stuff you get in most moisturisers on general sale!
snowfire is fantastic! I hadn't seen any for years and last week my mum showed me some she'd got from a local pharmacy. it works on chilblains, severely chapped hands etc. I haven't needed it this year and from memory it tingles a bit at first but dad used some last week and his hands are soft as a baby's bum again now.

Either Dermol or Epaderm from the chemist. Epaderm's particularly good at softening dry areas to prevent the chapping starting in the first place. You can use Dermol lotion as a soap too, which is handy if washing dries your skin even more.

try some udder cream yes the stuff they use on cows udders my uncle was a cow man on a farm and told me about it. it does work. also good on horse sheaths in the winter to stop them getting chapped by the way i have 2 tubs one for me and one for the horse

I have the same problem every year - ask your boots chemist (describe your problem and tell them you have used pretty much everything) they will give you a tube of cream costs about 4 and you use it at night - its really thick and works a treat but you have to apply it sparingly as it is a steroid cream. But does wonders!!!!

I would recommend Diprobase cream. Quite cheap from the chemist. It can also be used for washing your hands (they use it in hospitals for hand washing). Not only does it soften the skin, but also acts as a barrier cream to stop the chapping in the first place. I have a huge tub of the stuff!!! It is also good for eczema
Crab tree and evelyn Gardners therapy hand cream. The best, hands down winner

three stars for everyone!!

But how on earth am i going to decide which one to get??

Talk about spoilt for choice!

cheers all xx

Use something that is recommended for people who have eczema. The active ingredient you're looking for is urea.

Most chemists have this sort of product. I can recommend a cream called 'Eucerin', which also contains urea.

I think that you will find this superb, and I know that when I've prescribed it in the past, its always done the trick.

i agree with the above post. Eucerin is amazing for my eczema although it doesn't sink in very well, so isn't good for my hands.
