Why does the man leading the kids on the beach see the VW and then wake up the people in the tent saying the egg and spoom race starts in 10 minutes. I can only assume he's gone the same way as the poor woman who says 'hello boys' on Talk Sport every 10 minutes. Or have I missed the point completely?

the point is the car looks like a family car, so its assumed that the owners are a family with kids.
I think it is similar to the Toyota advert.(pretending to own it for self image). It is a family car, but he wants people nearby to think that he owns it, so he pretends that his children are in the tent where the car is parked. Inside the tent are young adults, therefore increasing the popularity of the car, beyond a family user.
Hmm, no. I think it's because the man is jealous of the new Peugeot the people own. So he decides to pretend he's mistaken them for kids taking part in the "egg and spoon race". I might be wrong though.
The new VW vehicle is a "family" car so the guy leading the kids on the beach assumes there is a family in the tent where the VW is parked.

Thanks guys, I think the family theory must be right, though I thought he may have woken them up out of jealousy as well. Either way I think the meaning is so unclear as to be voted to be taken off TV asap.
