the reason I am asking is because I smelled something very similar on someone when I was in the post office but she had gone before I got a chance to ask what perfume it was

My favourite in the 60s!!
Tilly...think it was Goya....they did the hand cream too !
Founds this online:
Aqua Manda is the perfume most associated with the early 70s. It has a orange blossom scent.

Aqua Manda was introduced by suave, sophisticated man about town, Christopher Collins. He took over perfume manufacturer, Goya, from his father in the late sixties and personally developed Aqua Manda. Christopher Collins was a successful amateur horse rider as well as a businessman. He finished third in the Grand National in 1965 and also tried his hand at Three Day Eventing.

Yes, I have just looked at the link provided by woofgang. Thank you both.
I would be sceptical buying perfume online - as you cannot smell it!
Yes. My sister's name is Amanda so she used to wear it as her 'signature scent' -whatever that really means! I always thought it was a bit sickly and it smelt awful on me when I tried it once.
My favourite, when I was a hippy, was Patchouli oil. Flower Power and all that.
Trouble with Patchouli is it was hit and miss how good a one you got, but is sure very evocative of the day.
when I grew up a bit more it was Revlon Moondrops. I loved that.
Matching flower pattern shirts and ties went with platform shoes and flairs as far as i remember. I had a pair of purple 'Loons' I think they were called , flared trousers with no pockets (what a daft idea) you had to have a 'man bag' to keep your stuff in, they were unisex, girls and boys wore them around 1968 to 1970.
Anyone got any 'joss sticks'? you used to burn them to cover the smell of 'weed'.
Flared jeans , platform cork soled clogs, cheesecloth shirt, love beads, leather thong round wrist, swatch watch, babycham and cider, floppy hat....ah I remember it well !.....
You can still buy joss sticks. We have a shop in town that sells them.................and patchouli oil.
