That may be true, but there was the case of Frankie's 'altocation' with another East End hard case who ended up being shot dead with his own gun. Frankie was not charged for lack of evidence, but he still doesn't deny it.

He was a renowned and respected 'hard man' of the Richardson Gang, his reputation is in print for all to see.

Let's see. He served a total of 42 years, all for offences involving violence. In the 1950s he attacked Jack Spot. (Note for younger readers: Spot was a feared gangland boss who controlled Soho). He got 7 years for that. In the 'torture trial' witnesses told of his extracting teeth of victims (plural) with pliers. He got 10 years. He was once acquitted of murder because witnesses suddenly decided they didn't want to testify, after all, but he was convicted of affray relating to it.
In jail, he once led a riot and was persistently in trouble for assaulting warders.
We have to understand , of course, that every gangland boss employs people because they are gentle mild-mannered midgets who wouldn't anyone and would run away at the first sign of trouble.
