On Friday, my employer gave me a box of chocolates. On Saturday, my brother gave me a box of chocolates. It's Tuesday & there are about 5 chocolates left in total. I'm one of those people that eats all their easter eggs on Easter Sunday. Why can't I have chocolate sitting in the cupboard, & just have one occasionally, & make the box last? It's like I have to eat them all asap so they don't exist any more & the temptation is gone. Aaaaggggggghhhhh.

Many many people have asked themselves the same question. I am exactly the same and the thing is I don't enjoy them nearly as much ! I find that the only way to do it is not to have any chocolate at all in any shape or form for about two weeks and then the craving goes, its just like giving up coffee.

Sit down and have a word with yourself, fairy. Tell yourself youre able to deal with this situation. Youre stronger than this temptation. You can handle it. And listen to yourself, dont just say the words. Tell yourself youre going to do something about it, and youre going to be successful.

Now, if youre serious about this, try this little tip: take a chocolate and nibble at it enjoy the sensation of eating it, bit by bit, very s-l-o-w-l-y become very aware of the taste, the texture, the whole process of eating it of every little sensation it causes in your mouth (well, actually, in your mind!). Stop for a few seconds after each little nibble. Put the choccie down. Just enjoy the taste (its still there, in your mouth, even though the choccies gone), and also enjoy the knowledge that youre able to stop, to put it off, even for just a few moments and bit by bit, youll build up a confidence in your ability to withstand that temptation.

Take as long as you can to eat that one chocolate. Then, after a minute or two, have another if you want dont punish yourself, or limit yourself in any way. Youre doing this to overcome temptation, not create it. Youll probably find youll only want two or three if you eat them this way. And yes, youll enjoy them maybe even more than usual, since youre taking your time and really becoming aware of the sensations involved.

You might think this would never work. But try it anyway. Persist with it for a while. Really give it a shot. And let us know how you get on.

I know the feeling... except I wouldn't have five still left. I guess it's because I was brought up fairly poor, and when you got food you ate it. This sort of thing often has its roots in childhood behaviour, so maybe something similar applies to you. I have tried the two methods of curing myself already suggested and they didn't work for me, but they may well do for you.

Talk about will power Fridays box would have been eaten there and then and Saturdays would have been the same

How could you leave them that long so it seems to me you have lots of willpower

I really sympathise, I'm the same with any junk food in my house. Before my boyfriend moved in I just wouldn't buy crisps or chocolate unless I *really* wanted it, and then I'd buy one bar or one packet, not massive multipacks. It's so hard to resist when it's just next door but you can do it! One thing I do is put chocolate in the fridge so its harder to bite into (not as easy to gobble it all up!) and also it's not staring you in the face every time you go into the kitchen.
How the #### did you manage to make them last that long?? I envy your self control.
me too! The best thing to do? Open them at work/ with family asap and give them all away!!
