Knighthood For Tony Robinson.
34 Answers
I cannot understand what special things Tony Robinson has done to deserve a Knighthood. And yet Rowan Atkinson gets just a CBE. I found Tony Robinson totally obnoxious in Time Team. Even one of the Archaeologists left because he was always poking his nose into everything. He is certainly nothing special.

Your letter Patsy is word for word exactly what I would have written. There are far more deserving folk out there & as for being given a Knighthood.. .the mind boggles. (Can't stand the bloke. jem.

In response to the question, nobody should get honours. People who do good work are marvellous, but they enjoy it and have the time. Some go beyond the call of duty and I admire them greatly: but I cannot relate to a graded honours system which also recognises political, celebrity and business success and which harks back to the days of the Empire.
Does anybody on this thread even know what Tony Robinson has done outside of entertainment. If you are not knowledgeable about what he has done/is doing then why are you complaining. I would rather somebody that does public service or charitable work get a knighthood than some of the so called entertainers that have got one - Sir Cliff Richard, for example.
Billionaire Michael Hintze, who has given £1,447,580 to the Tories was honoured for his “charitable services”.
He is the latest of several major Tory donors to get gongs since Mr Cameron came to power in 2010.
Labour MP John Mann said the knighthood for Mr Hintze was “unedifying. It’s the old story of cash for honours”.
Another pal of David Cameron, GQ editor Dylan Jones, is awarded an OBE this year.

I don't agree with anyone getting a gong for doing what they want to do and being well paid for it. Sorry, its one of my big moans. Gongs should only go to people who have done something above and beyond their call of duty or totally unselfish acts of bravery. I have nothing against Sir Paul, Sir Cliff or the likes of them, but it infuriates me when I think they have done exactly as they wanted, been well paid curtesy of their fans and yet they are knighted for doing it. Just me and my opinion I respect others. End of rant.
The grumpiness on my part jno, is that these honours are still going on in this day and age, representing Britain at it's most pompous. We could at least rename them! And stop giving so many. And reduce the "them and us" feeling by not giving them to civil servants and celebs.
Now its making me angry again! My mate has an honour and he did nothing for it, nothing but his job. But it bigs him up which is very devisive.
