Diseased Gallbladder?
5 Answers
An elderly lady I know has not felt right for well over a year now. She has lost over 2 stone, often feels sick and has lost her appetite. Has seen her doctor loads of times, had various tests but nothing ever shows up. Monday eve she felt so ill that her husband called the doctor out, who looked her over and called an ambulance. Had bloods taken etc etc and was sent for an ultrasound. When the porte came to wheel her back to the ward the radiologist said to him, " Please be careful with Mrs *****, in that area - she has a very diease gallbladder." Back at the ward when getting back into bed my fried repeated this to the nurse who was about to tuck her in and the nurse said "Oh let me have a look", then promptly started to prod her in the very area which the porter was told to be careful with. then the nurse announced " Oh you'll be fine, nothing wrong there".
So after my elderly friend heard this she has now decided that the scan was wrong and she doesnt need any medical intervention, and her husband is at his wits end. They arent due to see the doctor on his round till much later today, and he doesnt like to bother the staff, so he rang me up.
There is no way the scan could be wrong surely, and so what does this mean for her? Will she need surgery? And do her symptoms match the diagnosis? I havent Googled for obvious reasons, lol.

Scans are never wrong........it is the interpretation of what one sees on the scan that is open to misinterpretation.
\\\ Will she need surgery\\\
That will depend upon what the scan shows.
\\\ And do her symptoms match the diagnosis? \\
No diagnosis has been made, but yes, her symptoms could be due to gall bladder disease.

Just to let you know that my elderly friend died : ( She was in hospital for 3 wks and despite IV antibiotics for whole time the gallbladder was still septic so they decided to remove it but sent her home to gain some strength. Unfortunatelyshe went downhill and withing 24 hours being re-admitted to hospital she died, so now a post mortem is necessary. Her husband is beside himself with grief and I feel so sorry for him x
