The King Edwards Schools are also highly respected, if you are fee paying.
Within 10 minutes of both areas you can be in open countryside - a complete antithesis of the bigoted populist (london based) view that the West Mids is totally industrial. If you want pretty places, just check Sutton Park - given to the good people of the town in 1528 by Henry VIII and now the largest urban park in Europe, also a site of special scientific interest. Bear in mind this is only 20 mins drive from the centre of Birmingham - I lived here and commuted to the city for many years.

i_cnat_splel - I'm guesing you didn't go to a private school - neither did I, although I did go to a very good state one.
All I was saying was that if private education was on the cards as a choice, these are good schools.
At my school we also learned that if you have nothing valid to say, then don't say it. You muppet.
Ava77 - agreed on Lichfield, I lived there until I was 5 - great place for those with a young family.
