Lip-Llicking Staffie!

My 5 ywear old Staffie, Jack has been ill for a couple of days now, He's got bad dioreah and has been getting up to go outside 3-4 times through the night, which is not like him at all. Anyway, I've noticed that whenever he's not feeling very well, he always seems to lick his lips a lot. Does anyone know why? I realise that if this goes on much longer, we'll have to see a vet, but I just wondered if anyone out there had any ideas?

Please take your dog to the vet NOW and don't leave it any longer , poor soul, how would you like it if it was you?
lip licking is a sign of stress in dogs. Actually it can be in humans too. If he is feeling unwell and also worried about soiling the house he will be stressed.

My dog used to lick her lips before she threw up, I always knew there was something brewing!

Lip licking is a sign of nausea specifically and also of stress and discomfort.

My dog does that but she has heart problems and I assumed It was where she was trying to get air into her lungs.

I have mentioned it to the vet but she wasn't concerned about it.

Just letting you all know Jack's all better now! We found the cause, which should be a warning to all dog owners. My Grandson had been on a sleep-over, and had brought with him a very large bottle of bubbles. He thought it was great when Jack chased the bubbles to swallow them, but that's what made him so ill! Let's face it, a suppository is made from soap, so these bubbles were bound to have the same effect! Poor Jack! Bubbles are now banned from our house. But I would never have thought it could make him so ill!
