Merry Morning Crossword genii! Its been a while since I had the energy or inclination to consider a grid of death but here today I type before you a humbled soul! Between the dreaded Scottish midge and the crosswords of puck I stand, confused as to which to do battle with next. I guess the crossword whilst equally annoying is less itchy so I would be most grateful for any and all assistance required to answer what appears to be the last clue

Would like to join this thread for a good explanation. Think I've finished, but how does this one work: 24d, 28ac Odd bits of invective needed - for this CD, that is (4,7) Looks like it must be FOUR HUNDRED (CD = 400 in Roman numerals) but how does the rest of the clue work?
odd bits of invective = I V C I E - the odd letters

IV C IE = four hundred that is
